(Taipei, May 9, Central News Agency reporter Liu Chien-pang) An incident occurred this afternoon at Shih Hsin University where a cement truck collided with the campus auditorium. Preliminary police investigation suggests that the cement truck's handbrake may have malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to lose control, slide, and collide with the auditorium, resulting in damage to the front of the truck. The driver sustained minor abrasions to his hand.

The Wenshan First Precinct of the Taipei City Police Department issued a press release stating that at around 3 PM this afternoon, they received a report of a cement truck colliding with the auditorium fence within Shih Hsin University. Preliminary investigation revealed that the cement truck involved in the incident was engaged in new building construction work on campus prior to the accident.

During the process, the 70-year-old cement truck driver, Mr. Chen, noticed that the vehicle's handbrake was suspected of malfunctioning. Subsequently, the vehicle suddenly began to slide out of control and collided with the outer fence of the auditorium on campus, causing damage to the front of the cement truck.

The police stated that the cement truck driver jumped out of the vehicle during the accident, resulting in minor abrasions to his left hand. He was conscious, not in life-threatening condition, and was not sent to the hospital. Only the driver was lightly injured in this case, with no other personnel injured, and the driver's alcohol test result was zero.

The police said that upon arrival, they secured the scene and implemented traffic control, and assisted relevant personnel in handling follow-up matters. The university has since coordinated with the driver and his company regarding the damage to the building.

Furthermore, as the accident site is within university grounds and not a general road, the police assisted citizens in obtaining relevant certification documents in accordance with regulations. The accident vehicle has since been removed from campus by a tow truck. (Edited by Chang Ming-kun) 1150509
