(Central News Agency reporter Liu Chien-pang, Taipei, 9th) The Taipei City Parks and Street Lights Office today announced that the 'Beitou No. 29' Inclusive Playground, located within Beitou MRT Linear Park near Beitou MRT Station, has been completed and opened. It features a 'Dog Arena' theme, providing a new outdoor recreation option for families and children.
The Taipei City Government's Public Works Department, Parks and Street Lights Office, stated in a press release that the 'Beitou No. 29' Inclusive Playground is located diagonally opposite No. 55, Section 2, Beitou Road. Its overall planning is interconnected and incorporates situational play design, including a situational house, slides, and a dog-shaped seesaw that requires cooperative operation.
The Parks and Street Lights Office stated that because the 'Beitou No. 29' Inclusive Playground is close to a dog activity area, it adopted the concept of a dog arena, connecting play facilities with a circular route. Facilities include a slide house combination play set, a rotating chair, bush play panels, shop play panels, and seesaws.
The Parks and Street Lights Office stated that the situational house in this playground provides children with a space for hiding, resting, and observing, promoting social interaction during play. The rotating facility, through mild vestibular stimulation, helps train children's balance and body coordination, combining fun and developmental benefits. The dog-shaped seesaw requires cooperative operation with companions and is suitable for children aged 5 and above.
In addition, Beitou MRT Linear Park is rich in greenery and well-ventilated. The playground also combines the shaded space under the MRT elevated bridge, providing a relatively cool and comfortable outdoor play environment, allowing children to enjoy playing even in summer.
The Parks and Street Lights Office stated that it will continue to promote inclusive playgrounds, creating safe, diverse, and distinctive children's play environments. There are currently 77 inclusive playgrounds, and the 'Beitou No. 29' Inclusive Playground is the 77th, costing approximately NT$3.5 million. Three more inclusive playgrounds will be completed this year.
An 'inclusive playground' refers to a play space that can provide all children with opportunities to play, interact, and develop abilities, including general children and children with special needs, such as those with autism, intellectual disabilities, or physical disabilities. It should have a barrier-free environment and be suitable for different types of disabilities, ensuring safety and other characteristics. (Editor: Lee Heng-shan) 1150509
