(Central News Agency reporter Chang Chien-chung, Taipei, 8th) Fang Lue, Chairman of wafer foundry Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS), stated today that strong artificial intelligence (AI) demand will support semiconductor industry growth, and the semiconductor market is expected to grow steadily this year. Furthermore, due to strong customer demand, the capacity of the Singapore Phase 1 fab has already been fully pre-sold.

Vanguard International Semiconductor held a media briefing today. Fang Lue said in an interview that strong AI demand, coupled with rising energy and material prices caused by the US-Iran war, and the company's continuous investments, have led to increased costs. Some price increases have already been announced. Regarding whether there will be further price increases in the second half of the year, he stated that if operating costs continue to increase, Vanguard International Semiconductor will work with customers to respond.

Regarding the progress of the Singapore 12-inch fab, Fang Lue pointed out that the new company VSMC broke ground 18 months ago, and a large number of machines were moved in about 5 months ago. Currently, more than 200 machines have been moved into the cleanroom, and samples are expected to be sent to customers in July this year, with mass production starting in the first quarter of next year.

Fang Lue said that due to strong customer demand, the capacity of the Singapore Phase 1 fab has already been fully pre-sold, and it is expected to achieve its full capacity target of 44,000 wafers per month by 2028 earlier than planned. Currently, the Singapore fab has recruited 700 people, and the number of employees may exceed 1,000 when it reaches full capacity. (Editor: Lin Shu-yuan) 1150508
