(Central News Agency reporter Chang Chien-Chung, Taipei, 8th) Chung-Wan Hsu, Chairman of memory module manufacturer Transcend Information, stated today that the current artificial intelligence (AI) boom is creating a new era of transformation. He believes the memory industry cycle is different from those of the past 30 to 40 years, and the memory shortage situation could possibly extend until 2028.
Transcend held a media exchange meeting today, and Hsu said in an interview that this memory boom is different from the cycles of the past 30 to 40 years. He expects the market will not reverse in half a year, and anticipates a shortage throughout this year and next year, possibly extending until 2028.
Hsu stated that the industrial changes driven by this AI boom are greater than those brought by computers and mobile phones, marking a new era of transformation. He believes Taiwan will be the biggest beneficiary of the AI boom, and the Taiwanese electronics industry has great opportunities.
Hsu mentioned that memory manufacturers have all invested capital to increase production, but new capacity will not be available until next year at the earliest. He expects memory prices to inevitably continue rising during the next two years of shortage.
To meet capital turnover needs, Transcend will issue unsecured domestic convertible bonds, planning to raise NT$3 billion in capital. Hsu said that Transcend last issued unsecured convertible bonds 10 years ago, and hopes to complete this issuance by July. (Edited by Pan Yi-Jing) 1150508
