(Central News Agency reporter Chang Jung-hsiang, Tainan, 8th) A coach surnamed Weng from a junior high school track and field team in Tainan is suspected of having committed forcible indecency and sexual assault against four female students on multiple occasions over many years, utilizing opportunities during daily training and away competitions. The entire case erupted during the #MeToo era; the Tainan District Prosecutors Office recently concluded its investigation, indicted him, and requested a severe sentence.

The Tainan District Prosecutors Office stated today that between 2006 and 2018, Coach Weng allegedly used or created opportunities to be alone with the girls during daily training and away competitions. He is accused of committing 4 instances of forcible indecency and 11 instances of forcible sexual assault against 4 female students at various locations, including school sports equipment storage areas, a disabled restroom at Xinying Sports Park, lodging during off-site training in other counties, lodging during competitions in other counties, motels, his own residence, or by the roadside while driving.

The Tainan District Prosecutors Office's investigation revealed that the victims were under 14 or just turned 14 at the time, and their knowledge and judgment regarding sexual matters were immature. One of them posted about her experience of sexual assault during the #MeToo wave. In 2024, she coincidentally met a junior from the same school and learned through conversation that other track and field team members were also suspected of being subjected to forcible indecency or sexual assault by Coach Weng. She then again posted about her victim experience on Facebook.

After receiving the report, the school initiated an investigation by the Gender Equality Education Committee. The police and prosecutors also followed leads to investigate, cross-referencing information to reconstruct the facts of the crime. The Tainan District Prosecutors Office indicted Coach Weng on charges including forcible indecency against a female under 14 (1 count), forcible sexual assault by an adult against a minor (11 counts), and forcible indecency by an adult against a minor (3 counts).

The Tainan District Prosecutors Office stated that Coach Weng, over a long period, used his position as a junior high school track and field coach to commit forcible indecency and sexual assault against several innocent girls who were obedient to his instructions and dared not resist or seek help. This severely damaged the girls' personalities, affected the victims' lives, gravely violated the professional ethics expected of a teacher, and completely destroyed the trust of parents and students in coaches. Given the long duration of the crime, the large number of victims, the severe nature of the crime, and its egregious malice, the court is requested to impose a severe sentence.
