(Central News Agency Reporter Lee Hui-ting, Pingtung County, May 8) Following concerns over rodent infestation in Taipei City, the Pingtung County Government has initiated rodent control mechanisms in 30 public and private markets. Through three major measures—environmental cleaning, strengthening rodent control, and vendor awareness—the aim is to improve hygiene and management. Additionally, the public is urged not to discard trash indiscriminately to collectively maintain market cleanliness in markets.
The Pingtung County Government announced today in a press release that it prioritizes food safety and market environmental quality. Currently, there are 28 public markets and 2 private markets throughout the county. All township and city offices have been instructed to conduct a comprehensive inventory and strengthen efforts for retail markets.
The County's Urban and Rural Development Department mentioned that the three major重點 measures include enhancing environmental cleaning, increasing the frequency of cleaning in market public areas, drainage ditches, and around stalls, and thoroughly implementing trash classification and collection. It also involves comprehensively inspecting internal and external rodent control facilities within markets, including setting up trapping equipment and conducting regular disinfection operations. Furthermore, vendors will be guided on proper handling of food ingredients and waste, to avoid exposure and accumulation, and publicize hygiene concepts to collectively maintain the overall market environment.
The Urban and Rural Development Department stated that traditional markets are important venues for daily shopping, and environmental hygiene cannot be relaxed. They will continue to cooperate closely with various public offices and, based on actual needs, introduce professional pest control resources to enhance the overall market management efficiency. At the same time, consumers are also urged not to discard trash indiscriminately to jointly maintain market cleanliness. (Edited by Wu Su-jou) 1150508
