(Penghu County, May 8, CNA) The drone performance at the "2026 Penghu International Ocean Fireworks Festival," although successfully launched last night, suffered from signal interference, leading to an incomplete presentation. Penghu County Deputy Magistrate Lin Chieh-hsing apologized again today, and the Penghu County Government will hand over relevant data and information to the police for further investigation and clarification.

Following his late-night apology yesterday, Lin Chieh-hsing this morning, accompanied by County Government Secretary-General Lin Wen-tzao, Tourism Department Director Chen Mei-ling, and Police Chief Lin Shu-kuo, expressed apologies and humility for the drone performance's signal interference, which resulted in some patterns not being fully displayed and affecting the viewing experience, disappointing residents and tourists. They pledged to demand higher standards for the quality and safety management of future events.

Lin Chieh-hsing stated that the drone performance suffered signal interference twice, causing some patterns to be incompletely displayed. He has requested the executing vendor to provide a complete technical inspection and accident analysis report within 24 hours to clarify the cause, system anomaly points, and responsibilities.

He said that a letter has been sent to the Civil Aeronautics Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and the National Communications Commission (NCC) to assist in investigating whether external signal interference occurred at the site and to help with subsequent related inspections and exclusion operations. The Penghu County Government has also established a professional review team to comprehensively examine the safety management, testing procedures, and emergency response mechanisms for subsequent sessions, and to initiate contract performance review procedures in accordance with contract regulations to ensure the smooth progress of future events.

Lin Chieh-hsing stated that immediately after the incident, the county government requested the executing vendor to investigate the cause. After preliminary judgment, it is suspected that during the first take-off of the drone performance, it was affected by on-site signal interference, causing abnormal positioning of some drones and an incomplete display of patterns. The vendor conducted system inspection and recalibration at the first instance, and after the fireworks were set off, the drones took off again, but some patterns still could not be fully displayed.

The Penghu County Government said that the on-site positioning test and related flight inspection operations were completed and met standards before the drone performance. During the testing period, the performance was normal and complete. Based on current preliminary findings, it is suspected that signal interference led to abnormal drone positioning. Relevant data and information will be handed over to the police for further investigation and clarification. (Editor: Li Ming-tsung) 1150508
