(Central News Agency reporter Kuo Hsuan-wen, Hsinchu County, 8th) The Hsinchu County Animal Protection and Disease Prevention Office (APDP) stated today that it recently received a report and investigated a suspected case of improper cat keeping in Xinfeng Township. The owner was allegedly hospitalized and unable to provide proper care, leading to 14 cats being unfed for many days and in poor health. They have been urgently seized and placed, and an investigation and penalty will be carried out according to law.

The Hsinchu County Government issued a press release today, stating that the APDP received a public report of suspected improper keeping on May 4th. However, because some cats were hiding in wall crevices, the rescue team only successfully rescued all cats the day before yesterday. A total of 14 cats were in poor health, exhibiting symptoms such as diarrhea, flea infestation, and skin diseases.

He Chih-feng, director of the Hsinchu County Animal Protection and Disease Prevention Office, told the Central News Agency that in addition, the site environment was dirty, and no food or clean water was provided. The owner was also suspected of not registering pets as required by regulations. The 14 cats have been urgently seized and placed, and provided with flea treatment and necessary care.

He pointed out that as for the owner's other offenses, an investigation and disposition will be carried out according to law after relevant evidence is clarified.

He Chih-feng stated that citizens who keep animals should fulfill their responsibilities as owners, providing necessary food, water, care, and a safe environment for the animals. If they are unable to provide proper care for any reason, they should seek assistance and not allow animals to remain in hunger, disease, or dangerous environments for a long time.
