(Central News Agency reporter Wu Chia-hao, Taipei 8th) Microsoft's Artificial Intelligence Economy Institute released its Q1 2026 Global AI Usage Report, revealing the latest trends of accelerating penetration of generative AI worldwide. Taiwan's AI diffusion rate increased to 31.8%, a 3.4 percentage point growth compared to the second half of 2025, entering the global top 20 for the first time, surpassing the United States and Germany.
The report points out that the global AI diffusion rate reached 17.8% in Q1 this year, a 1.5 percentage point increase compared to the second half of 2025. This means that approximately one in six workers globally is using generative AI tools.
Globally, 26 economies have an AI diffusion rate exceeding 30%. The top five are the United Arab Emirates at 70.1%, Singapore at 63.4%, Norway at 48.6%, Ireland at 48.4%, and France at 47.8%. Taiwan ranks 20th with 31.8%, leading the United States' 31.3% and Germany's 31.1%.
Among the 15 markets with the fastest growth in global AI diffusion rates since June 2025, 12 are located in Asia. South Korea's AI diffusion rate reached 37.1%, a 6.4 percentage point increase compared to the second half of last year. Japan's AI diffusion rate is 22.5%, a 3.4 percentage point increase, continuously climbing in global rankings, mainly benefiting from improved AI model capabilities, diverse industrial ecosystems, and national policy support.
The report notes that advancements in AI programming development tools are fundamentally changing software development methods, not only accelerating iteration speed but also significantly increasing code output. Over the past year, one of the world's largest code hosting platforms, GitHub, saw its code uploads (Git pushes) increase by 78% year-on-year, showing extremely significant growth.
