(Central News Agency reporter Hung Su-tsin, Taipei, 8th) PTS "Viewpoint" received the TIDF Outstanding Contribution Award and invited director Ko Chin-yuan's new film "Between Water, Not Water" to premiere during the film festival. This film uses "water" as its narrative core, exploring the strong emotions and infinite dependence between humans and water, while also showing fear and brutal treatment.
Ko Chin-yuan's new PTS documentary "Between Water, Not Water" had its world premiere today at the Taiwan International Documentary Festival (TIDF). Through three axes of image, sound, and music, it guides the audience to "listen" to the source of life, to "gaze" upon this gentle yet violent force, and to reflect on the relationship between humans and water.
Ko Chin-yuan attended the premiere of the PTS documentary "Between Water, Not Water" today. The documentary showcases Ko Chin-yuan's 40 years of environmental documentation prowess, dissecting the various revelations "water" offers to the public. He conducted "source-tracing and water-patrolling" field observations, starting from the coast, tracing rivers upstream against the current, visiting the sources of Taiwan's three major rivers. It presents six chapters on different aspects of water: the great water cycle, biological symbiosis, water culture and beliefs, industrial development, water environment and disasters, and thoughts on water.
The entire film uses pure imagery, sound, and music as its language, without narrative narration. It uses "water" itself as the narrative core to interpret the emotions of water, allowing the audience to directly confront the true appearance and character of water, the deep affection and infinite dependence between humans and water, and on the other hand, the deep fear and brutal treatment.
In addition to presenting the changes in Taiwan's water environment, the documentary "Between Water, Not Water" hopes to inspire audiences to think about how to reconstruct the relationship between humans and water. Ko Chin-yuan said, "In the past 30 years, droughts and floods have swung dramatically. I deeply feel that the water problem is a challenge Taiwan must face. This time, I try to use another way to make people perceive water again, to let water tell its own story!"
The documentary "Between Water, Not Water" will have its first broadcast on PTS Channel "Our Island" at 10 PM on the 11th. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150508
