(Central News Agency reporter Hung Hsueh-kuang, Kaohsiung, 8th) The Kaohsiung MRT Xiaogang-Linyuan Line has reached the final piece of its contracting puzzle. The Kaohsiung City Department of Rapid Transit Systems today announced that the second phase of civil engineering has been successfully contracted, and the entire line's construction will be fully launched, moving towards the goal of completion and operation in ROC year 123 (2034).

The Kaohsiung City Government Department of Rapid Transit Systems announced that after the Executive Yuan approved the comprehensive plan for the Xiaogang-Linyuan Line on September 23, 2022 (ROC year 111), the city government simultaneously initiated design work and proceeded with the bidding and award processes for various electromechanical, design, and civil construction projects.

Among them, the electromechanical and track bids for the Xiaogang-Linyuan Line were completed in 2023 (ROC year 112). The civil construction bids were divided into two phases; the first phase was completed in 2023 (ROC year 112), and the second phase, covering the section from the south shield tunnel of RL3 New Material Circular Economy Industrial Park Station to RL7 Linyuan High-Value Industrial Park Station, was successfully completed on May 7, 2026 (ROC year 115). Thus, the final piece of the Xiaogang-Linyuan Line project's contracting puzzle is complete.

The Department of Rapid Transit Systems today issued a press release stating that the MRT Xiaogang-Linyuan Line project is a key infrastructure in the Executive Yuan's "Great Southern Development Plan for Southern Taiwan." The city government promotes the policy concept of "prioritizing major transportation infrastructure." The line passes through three national-level industrial parks (Linhai Industrial Park, Linyuan Industrial Park, New Material Circular Economy Industrial Park) and will be implemented using the same system as the MRT Red Line, allowing for "through-train" operation. It will connect northern and southern industrial parks with transportation hubs such as Kaohsiung International Airport, High-Speed Rail stations, and Taiwan Railway stations, driving balanced development across all districts.

The MRT Xiaogang-Linyuan Line has a total length of approximately 11.59 kilometers. The line starts from the reserved tunnel of Kaohsiung MRT Red Line R3 Station, extends southward via underground tunnels, passes through Yanhaier Road, Yanhaisan Road, Zhongmen Road, Yanhaier Road Section 4 to Yanhaier Road Section 2, and ends before Linyuan High-Value Industrial Park, with 7 stations.

The Xiaogang-Linyuan Line is currently 14.32% complete. With the entire line now contracted, construction will be fully launched. After completion and operation, by encouraging the transfer from cars and motorcycles to public transportation, it will reduce the risk of mixed passenger and cargo traffic, provide safe, direct, high-quality, and convenient services to passengers, and usher Kaohsiung City into a new phase of public transportation-oriented seamless transport.
