Central News Agency (CNA) reporter Chang Jung-hsiang, Tainan, May 8th — The Tainan District Prosecutors Office announced today that two women, surnamed Zheng and Zhang, engaged in home childcare in Tainan, were involved in the repeated abuse of five toddlers. The previous case was transferred in March for trial by a specialized court with citizen judges. Following the discovery of additional evidence of abuse, they were again indicted on charges of hindering the development of children under seven years old.

The Tainan District Prosecutors Office stated today that on December 6 last year, the police and prosecutors received a report from a hospital that an 11-month-old toddler was suspected of being abused, suffering severe injuries such as cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral edema. Zheng and Zhang were apprehended. Prosecutors determined that the crime constituted severe harm to the development of a toddler, and that evidence, such as surveillance footage, had been deleted. At that time, prosecutors successfully applied for their detention. On March 27 this year, the investigation concluded, and the case was transferred for trial by a specialized court with citizen judges.

Subsequently, the police and prosecutors reviewed surveillance footage from the childcare location and discovered that four other toddlers had also been abused by Zheng and Zhang. On April 30, the Tainan District Prosecutors Office again filed public charges against them for hindering the development of children under seven years old. (Edited by Chen Jen-hua) 1150508
