Central News Agency (CNA) reporter Huang Chiao-wen, Taipei, May 8th — Taiwan High Speed Rail's first set of new generation N700ST trains is expected to arrive in Taiwan in August. Following the recent release of a video featuring Chairman Shi Che with the new train, dubbed the 'platypus,' High Speed Rail today unveiled the interior of the new train. This includes windows that resemble airplane windows, offering noise reduction, and Shi Che personally demonstrated the 'recessed seating' which will not affect adjacent passengers.

Taiwan High Speed Rail has purchased 12 sets of new generation N700ST trains from Japan. The first set will be delivered in July and arrive in Taiwan in August. Next year marks the 20th anniversary of High Speed Rail's operation, and the new trains are expected to gradually enter service starting from the second half of next year.

Taiwan High Speed Rail's Facebook fan page previously shared a video of the new train's livery, known as the 'platypus.' Today, they updated the video again, with Shi Che unboxing the interior.

In addition to the standard car seats being changed to a bright blue tone, Shi Che stated that passengers will first notice that the new train windows are smaller, much like airplane windows, which have a significant noise reduction effect.

Shi Che also revealed small design details of the seats. He said the seats look very comfortable and refreshing. Furthermore, the first thing everyone is most concerned about is that every seat has a charging port.

Shi Che also personally tried out the seats, saying that with the recessed seating, when passengers lean back, the wrapped seat sinks down, "so everyone can feel more at ease, it won't affect the person next to them, and it's safer."

Shi Che stated that in addition to small hooks behind each seatback, the tables adopt a lightweight, slow-descent design, all moving towards refinement. At the same time, all carriages are adequately equipped with high-resolution CCTV (closed-circuit television). (Edited by Wan Shu-chang) 1150508
