(Central News Agency Singapore, May 7, comprehensive foreign report) Singapore's Communicable Disease Agency (CDA) announced today that two residents who had traveled on a cruise ship involved in a fatal hantavirus outbreak have been quarantined and are undergoing testing.

Reuters reported that multiple countries worldwide are tracking passengers from the infected cruise ship to prevent further spread of the hantavirus. The outbreak on the MV Hondius cruise ship has resulted in three deaths, including a Dutch couple and a German citizen, with eight others suspected of being infected with the virus.

Hantavirus is typically transmitted by rodents, but in rare cases, it can also spread between humans.

The two Singapore residents, men aged 67 and 65, are currently isolated at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases. The Singapore CDA stated in a press release that they boarded the MV Hondius cruise ship on April 1st from Ushuaia, Argentina.

The Singapore CDA stated: "One of them has symptoms of a runny nose but is in good overall condition, while the other is asymptomatic. Currently, the risk of hantavirus to the general public in Singapore remains low."

If the hantavirus test results are negative, the two individuals will undergo a 30-day quarantine from the last day of contact. If the test is positive, they will remain hospitalized for observation and treatment.

The Singapore CDA stated that after disembarking, the two individuals took a flight from St Helena to Johannesburg on April 25th and were on the same flight as a confirmed hantavirus case. This confirmed case did not enter Singapore but passed away in South Africa. (Compiled by: Chen Yu-ting) 1150508
