Following recent reports of alleged hidden cameras in cosmetic surgery clinics, Gu Jia Medical, a well-known urology clinic, issued a statement through its lawyers denying the accusations. The clinic emphasized that its surveillance equipment (CCTV) is standard practice in many medical institutions to ensure smooth operations, protect patient and staff rights, and prevent disputes. These cameras are clearly visible in public and some treatment areas, primarily for patient safety, managing emergencies, and clarifying disputes. The clinic asserts it strictly adheres to privacy boundaries and does not target specific individuals or private areas. Patients are informed about the presence of recording devices through clear signage, procedural information, or written forms during their first visit, and consent is obtained. If a patient explicitly objects to recording, the cameras will be physically covered. All recorded footage is strictly controlled internally, retained for only three months, and then destroyed according to regulations. Gu Jia Medical claims to comply with the Medical Act and Personal Data Protection Act, using footage solely for internal quality control and record-keeping, with no external leakage or improper use. The clinic welcomes direct verification and warns that it will pursue legal action, both civil and criminal, against anyone spreading defamatory and false information.
