(Central News Agency reporter Chen Chih-chung, Taipei, 8th) The "Island Weavers" special exhibition, organized by the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture, opened today, inviting the public to understand and protect the national ecological green network. Lin Hua-ching, Director-General of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, stated that it cannot rely solely on the central mountain range but must also connect shallow mountains, plains, and coasts.
The "Island Weavers - National Ecological Green Network Theme Exhibition" will be held until June 7th at Taiwan Design Research Institute 01 and 04 exhibition halls in Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, Taipei City. It showcases the achievements of the national ecological conservation green network construction project, which has been promoted since 2018. Combining multimedia narratives and interactive installations, it encourages the public to intuitively experience ecological flows and transform their concern for the land into concrete actions.
Lin Hua-ching stated that after 40 to 50 years of protection, the central mountain range of Taiwan, including various protected areas and national parks, has achieved visible conservation results. However, just as the human body cannot rely solely on the central nervous system but also needs to consider peripheral nerves, circulatory systems, and peripheral microvessels to move freely.
He said that the areas currently being actively promoted include shallow mountains, plains, and coasts, which are the most densely populated and highly utilized areas in Taiwan, posing very high conservation challenges.
Lin Hua-ching stated that promoting the ecological green network is not only to allow biological migration but, more importantly, to enable people to live and work peacefully on this land of Taiwan, making the environment more resilient to the impact of future climate change.
According to the exhibition introduction, the national ecological green network is a national ecological conservation spatial strategy that aims to maintain biodiversity in national land development. The method is to identify key locations and reconnect fragmented habitats. The national ecological conservation green network construction project has inventoried 45 ecological conservation corridors and 44 ecological concern areas, using diverse strategies of blue and green belts to connect forests, rivers, farmlands, settlements, and coasts, allowing animals to have migration paths and the land to retain its regulation and nurturing functions.
