(Central News Agency reporter Kuo Xuan-wen, Hsinchu County, 8th) The registration deadline for township and city mayor nominations announced by the DPP Hsinchu County Party Headquarters ended today. Zhubei City is the only township or city in Hsinchu County governed by the DPP, but the incumbent mayor, Cheng Chao-fang, did not register; the party stated that it plans to nominate candidates through conscription.

According to data from the Democratic Progressive Party Hsinchu County Party Headquarters, the registration for township and city mayors and council members in Hsinchu County ended today. Among them, the election situation in Zhubei City affects the overall layout of Hsinchu County, but Cheng Chao-fang did not register for the party's nomination this time.

The party stated that since no one registered for the township and city mayor positions by the deadline, they plan to proceed with the nomination process through conscription, while also retaining flexibility for cooperation with other township chiefs to expand their influence.

An insider from the DPP told a Central News Agency reporter that Zhubei City's population has continued to grow in recent years, and the electorate structure has rapidly changed. Coupled with the proactive local arrangements of the KMT and TPP camps, the Zhubei mayoral election has become one of the benchmark battlegrounds in Hsinchu County in 2026.

According to party data, currently, in the second and third electoral districts for council members, there are more registrants than nominated positions, and coordination will be conducted next week; if still oversubscribed, a poll is expected to be conducted in early June.

The party stated that in the second electoral district, four candidates are to be nominated, but a total of six people registered to compete, including incumbent council members Tsai Ya-hsun and Ouyang Ting seeking re-election, as well as Zhubei City representatives Chen Yu-tong, Fan Ge-ling, Shao Chi-yueh, and Cheng Chao-fang's office secretary Su Ai-ting. In the third electoral district, one candidate is to be nominated, but two people registered to compete: incumbent council member Ho Chien-hua and former Hsinchu County council member Yu Hsiao-ching.
