Delhi Metro to Invest NT$160.5 Billion to Build 7 New Sections to Enhance Commuting Convenience

(Central News Agency reporter Li Chin-wei, New Delhi, 8th) India's Delhi Metro network is set for a massive expansion, with a future investment of 482.845 billion Indian Rupees (approximately 160.5 billion New Taiwan Dollars) to build 7 new sections and 65 new stations, totaling over 97 kilometers, allowing people to travel more conveniently between the capital region and surrounding suburbs and developing areas.

India Today reported that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced this good news of the metro expansion, mentioning that four of these sections will be prioritized for completion by 2029, with the other three sections to be constructed sequentially.

NDTV reported that the four sections expected to be completed first include the Southwest Delhi Link, Central Delhi Transit Section, North Delhi Extension, and West Delhi Link.

The Southwest Delhi Link will be elevated, connecting Dhansa Bus Stand in Najafgarh to Nangloi, with 9 stations along its 11.859-kilometer length. Passengers can transfer to the existing Grey Line at Dhansa Bus Stand and to the existing Green Line at Nangloi.

The Central Delhi Transit Section is 15.969 kilometers long, with 13.721 kilometers underground and 2.248 kilometers elevated. It connects Jawaharlal Nehru University, surrounding institutions, and residential areas, with 10 stations along the way. Passengers can transfer to the Purple, Yellow, and Magenta Lines at Central Secretariat Station, to the Pink Line at Moti Bagh, to the Magenta Line at R.K. Puram, and to the Gold Line at Kishangarh.

The North Delhi Extension will be entirely elevated, with 8 stations along its 12.89-kilometer length. Passengers can transfer to the Yellow Line at Siraspur and to the Red Line at Narela DDA Sports Complex in Narela.

The West Delhi Link is 9.967 kilometers long, including 8.397 kilometers underground and 1.57 kilometers elevated, with 6 stations along the way. It connects areas such as Saraswati Garden and Mayapuri Industrial Area Phase III. Passengers can transfer to the Pink Line at Mayapuri and to the Magenta Line at Palam.

A statement from the Chief Minister's Office indicated that Gupta has instructed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to submit detailed project reports to the government for the four prioritized sections and the other three metro sections separately.

Times of India mentioned that Gupta stated these metro extensions will more closely connect several densely populated areas to the metro network, providing faster, safer, and more convenient transportation services for commuters.

Gupta mentioned that this wave of metro extension construction aims to improve the "last mile connectivity" for people traveling to various places. In addition to shortening commuting times and making transportation more sustainable, it will also play a key role in ensuring balanced development across all areas of Delhi.
