(Central News Agency reporter Lu Yan-Tzu, Taipei, 8th) The Ministry of Finance today announced the latest import and export statistics. Due to the booming and widespread demand for artificial intelligence (AI), April exports to Europe reached US$4.43 billion and exports to the United States reached US$21.53 billion, both setting new records for the same month in history, with year-on-year growth rates exceeding 60%. In terms of imports, imports from South Korea, also a key player in the AI supply chain, increased by 78.3% year-on-year, showing the most outstanding performance.

Observing the performance of the five major markets, exports to major markets all rose in April. Tsai Mei-Na, Director of Statistics Department at the Ministry of Finance, analyzed that this situation, which has reappeared after nearly four years since COVID-19 drove remote business opportunities, reflects the widespread demand for AI, Taiwan's critical niche in the technology industry, and factors such as the reorganization of global supply chains.
Among them, April exports to Europe were US$4.43 billion and exports to the United States were US$21.53 billion, both setting new records for the same month in history, with year-on-year growth rates of 64.2% and 63.8% respectively. Tsai Mei-Na said that the growth rate for Europe was the third-highest monthly record in history, especially exports to Ireland and Hungary, which increased by 9.5 times and 3.6 times respectively, far exceeding other countries. Information and communication products such as graphics cards and servers were the main drivers.
Tsai Mei-Na said that April exports to ASEAN were US$14.32 billion, the second-highest monthly record in history, with a year-on-year increase of 36.8%; exports to China and Hong Kong were US$16 billion, a year-on-year increase of 15.8%, marking 15 consecutive months of positive growth, with overall growth considered stable; exports to Japan were US$2.8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 28.4%.
In terms of imports, Tsai Mei-Na analyzed that April import values from China and Hong Kong, ASEAN, South Korea, and the United States all set the second-highest monthly records. Especially South Korea, as a major global chip producer and a key player in the AI supply chain, saw its April imports increase by as much as 78.3%, showing the most outstanding performance.
