(Central News Agency reporter Shen Ru-feng, Yilan County, 7th) The Yilan County Government incorporated the main dike-top bike paths within the county into the scope of application of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act in 2024, announcing the prohibition of motor vehicles. After the grace period, the county government and police issued the first fine yesterday on the Dongshan River dike-top bike path, with penalties up to NT$1800.
Wu Ming-hong, section chief of the Recreation Management Section of the County Government's Department of Business and Tourism, told Central News Agency reporters today that to ensure the safety of people engaged in sports, leisure, and cycling, and to improve the chaos caused by motor vehicles entering bike paths, the county government, starting from February 10, 2024, included the Dongshan River dike-top, the right bank of Luodong River, Lanyang River dike-top, Yilan River dike-top, Houdong River dike-top, the right bank dike-top of Dezikou River, and the bike path under the Yilan City railway overpass into the scope of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act. It announced that motor vehicles are prohibited from entering, and violators will be fined between NT$900 and NT$1800.
He said that despite continuous persuasion by the Department of Business and Tourism since the announcement, residents have frequently reported that motor vehicles continue to enter the Dongshan River dike-top bike path. To enforce the announced regulations, the Department of Business and Tourism, along with the police, actively cracked down on violations on the Dongshan River dike-top bike path yesterday and issued the first fine. Enforcement will continue with the police, urging motor vehicle drivers not to illegally enter to avoid penalties. (Edited by: Lin Shu-hui) 1150507
