(Central News Agency reporter Shen Ru-feng, Yilan County, 7th) The Yilan County Government included the major levee-top bicycle paths in the county under the scope of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act in 2024, announcing a ban on motor vehicles and motorcycles. After the warning period, the county government and police issued the first ticket on the Dongshan River levee-top bicycle path yesterday, with fines ranging from NT$900 to NT$1,800.
Wu Ming-hung, section chief of the Recreation Management Section of the County Government's Industrial and Tourism Department, told the Central News Agency today that to ensure the safety of people exercising, recreating, and cycling, and to improve the chaos of motor vehicles entering bicycle paths, the county government has, since February 10, 2024, included the Dongshan River levee-top, the right bank of Luodong River, Lanyang River levee-top, Yilan River levee-top, Houdong River levee-top, the right bank levee-top of Dezikou River, and the bicycle path under the Yilan City railway viaduct in the scope of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act, and announced a ban on motor vehicles and motorcycles. Violators can be fined between NT$900 and NT$1,800.
He said that although the Industrial and Tourism Department has continued to advise since the announcement, it still frequently receives public feedback that motor vehicles continue to enter the Dongshan River levee-top bicycle path. To implement the announced regulations, the Industrial and Tourism Department, together with the police, actively enforced the law on the Dongshan River levee-top bicycle path yesterday and issued the first ticket. Subsequent enforcement will continue with the police, urging motor vehicle drivers not to violate the rules to avoid fines. (Editor: Lin Shu-hui) 1150507
