(Central News Agency Washington, May 6, Comprehensive Foreign Report) The US military announced today that a US Navy warplane fired on a tanker attempting to break through Washington's blockade of Iranian ports, destroying the tanker's rudder and rendering it immobile.

Agence France-Presse reported that this is the second time the US military has fired on a vessel allegedly attempting to violate the blockade, which has been in effect since April 13.

The US Central Command (US Central Command) posted on social media platform X that the US military warned the Iranian-flagged empty tanker "M/T Hasna" was violating the blockade, but the crew "did not comply with instructions." Therefore, a US F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet "fired several rounds of 20mm cannon, destroying the tanker's rudder."

US Central Command said: "The Hasna is no longer sailing to Iran. The US blockade measures against vessels attempting to enter or exit Iranian ports remain fully in effect."

On April 19, US Central Command stated that another Iranian-flagged vessel, the Touska, attempted to violate the blockade and ignored multiple warnings from a US destroyer.

US warships eventually instructed the crew to evacuate the engine room, and then fired multiple 5-inch cannon rounds, disabling the tanker.

After the US and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran on February 28, the Iranian military has effectively blockaded the vital Strait of Hormuz shipping lane, a key conduit for oil and natural gas transportation.

The US announced the blockade of Iranian ports last month after peace talks between Pakistan and Iran failed to achieve a breakthrough.

US Central Command stated on May 4 that more than 50 merchant ships have been "instructed to turn around or return to port to comply" with the blockade order. (Compiled by: Chang Hsiao-wen) 1150507
