(Central News Agency, Washington, 6th comprehensive foreign report) US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated today that when US President Trump meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping next week, they will discuss the issue of China's continued purchase of oil from Iran.
Greer said in an interview with Bloomberg Television today: "We don't want this issue to undermine the overall bilateral relationship or affect any agreements that may be reached in the Beijing talks, but this is indeed an issue of concern to the US and may be brought up for discussion."
The Trump administration has criticized China for providing financial support to Iran through energy purchases, and Washington has warned banks that supporting Chinese refineries that buy Iranian crude oil could face the risk of US secondary sanctions.
The United States has recently continued to intensify efforts to prevent Iranian oil exports, as this revenue is an important financial source for the Tehran regime.
Greer said: "Iran is the world's number one sponsor of terrorism, and any entity that buys oil from Iran is aiding and abetting."
Trump is expected to visit China from May 14th to 15th to hold a summit with Xi Jinping. This will be their second bilateral meeting since their encounter in Busan, South Korea, last October.
He stated that there is a very friendly competition between the US and China, and this trip to China "will be a very important trip." (Compiler: Liu Wenyu) 1150507
