According to the press release issued by the Bureau of Cultural Heritage, Kao Chun-kuei (Bulaw Lhkatanamarutaw) was born in 1969. From his youth, he inherited the responsibility of leading chants from his father, elder Kao Tsang-feng, serving as a crucial 'ritual song leader' for over 30 years. He was familiar with the rhythms, lyrics, and taboos, making him an important folk inheritor and practitioner of the Lus'an festival.
Kao Chun-kuei was also deeply knowledgeable about Thao ritual practices and related skills, including the making of traps for the 'trial hunt ceremony,' the construction of 'ancestral houses,' and the crafting methods for swings in the 'swing festival.' He also led tribal youth in teaching and transmission, making outstanding contributions to the inheritance of Thao traditional culture.
