(Central News Agency Houston, May 6, Comprehensive Foreign Report) Shohei Ohtani broke out of his slump today with two hits, and Miguel Vargas hit his career-first three home runs in a single game, driving in six runs, leading the American Major League Baseball (MLB) Los Angeles Dodgers to a 12-2 rout of the Houston Astros.

The Associated Press and MLB official website reported that Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow gave up a solo home run to the first batter, Brice Matthews, in the bottom of the first inning, but then retired the next three batters. Notably, Glasnow recorded his 1,000th career strikeout when he struck out Astros' second batter Yordan Alvarez.

However, Glasnow showed clear discomfort during his warm-up in the second inning and signaled to the dugout to leave the game after throwing one pitch.

Reliever Jack Dreyer pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win. The Dodgers used a total of six relief pitchers to suppress the Astros' offense throughout the game.

In the top of the second inning, the Dodgers tied the score on a wild pitch by starter Lance McCullers Jr.

In the top of the third inning, Shohei Ohtani hit a double, ending his 18-at-bat hitless streak. This hitless streak was the second longest of his career, second only to his 19-at-bat hitless streak in 2020.

The Dodgers' offense exploded in the third inning, scoring five runs, including a three-run homer by Miguel Vargas, extending the lead to 6-1.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Dodgers added another run; in the top of the fifth inning, Miguel Vargas hit a two-run homer off reliever Jason Alexander, followed by an RBI single from Shohei Ohtani, extending the lead to 10-1.

At the start of the ninth inning, with the Dodgers leading 11-2, the Astros' bullpen was depleted, forcing catcher Cesar Salazar to pitch. Miguel Vargas then hit a solo home run to left field, completing his career-first "three-homer game." The team ultimately won 12-2.

Lance McCullers Jr. pitched 2.2 innings today, giving up 4 hits and 6 runs, and had 3 wild pitches, taking the loss. (Compiled by: Tsai Chia-min) 1150507
