(Central News Agency reporter Yu Hsiao-feng, Taipei, 7th) Meteorologist Wu Der-rong said today that the second plum rain front of the rainy season is expected to affect Taiwan starting tomorrow until it weakens and moves away on the 10th. As for Typhoon Hagupit, it poses no threat to Taiwan.

Wu Der-rong, an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University, stated in the "Xie Tian Ji Classroom" column of the Meteorological Applications Promotion Foundation that today, all areas are clear, temperatures continue to rise, and it feels warm like summer during the day, with the highest temperature in the south reaching 36 degrees Celsius. There is a chance of localized brief rainfall in mountainous areas and the eastern half of the island in the afternoon.

Wu Der-rong stated that the latest model simulations show that the second plum rain front will affect Taiwan on the 8th and 9th, bringing localized brief showers and occasional thunderstorms to northern, eastern, and central-southern mountainous areas, and temperatures will drop.

Wu Der-rong said that from the daytime of the 10th to the 12th, the front will weaken and move away, and the weather in all areas will improve, with temperatures rising. However, the atmosphere will remain unstable, and convection is likely to develop in mountainous areas in the afternoon, affecting some nearby plains.

Wu Der-rong stated that the latest European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) model has been adjusted to show that on the 13th, a front will brew near northern Taiwan, slightly affecting northern Taiwan with a chance of brief rainfall; on the 14th and 15th, the front will gradually move northward, and Taiwan will be within a warm air mass, with clear and warm weather like summer during the day, and a chance of brief showers or thunderstorms in mountainous areas in the afternoon. Since the late-stage simulations of various national models are inconsistent and will continue to be adjusted, further observation is needed.

In addition, according to observations by the Central Weather Administration, the center of Typhoon Hagupit was located at 7.2 degrees North latitude and 144.7 degrees East longitude at 2:00 AM on the 7th, moving northwest at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour.

Wu Der-rong pointed out that Typhoon Hagupit will move to the sea east of the Philippines on the 12th and weaken into a tropical depression. Five days later, it has a tendency to make a large turn to the northeast, posing no threat to Taiwan. (Edited by Li Heng-shan) 1150507
