(Central News Agency reporter Yang Yaoru, Taipei, 7th) Paraguayan President Santiago Peña arrived in Taiwan today for a state visit, landing in Taiwan in the early morning. Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung welcomed him at Taoyuan Airport on behalf of President Lai Ching-te, and stated on social media that Peña's visit will involve in-depth exchanges with Taiwan on cooperation in economic trade, education, medical and health care, science and technology, and smart transportation.
Lin Chia-lung posted on Facebook this morning that he went to the airport in the early morning to welcome President Peña and his delegation, expressing sincere welcome on behalf of President Lai and the people of Taiwan.
Lin Chia-lung said that last July, he led a delegation to visit Paraguay, met with President Peña and Paraguayan dignitaries, and gained a practical understanding of the progress of bilateral cooperation projects. Today, welcoming President Peña and his delegation in Taiwan, there is an opportunity to continue advancing cooperation after last year's visit and to further exchange views on future bilateral exchanges.
Lin Chia-lung emphasized that Paraguay has long supported Taiwan's international participation, for which Taiwan is deeply grateful. This state visit will involve in-depth exchanges on cooperation in economic trade, education, medical and health care, science and technology, and smart transportation.
President Peña will lead a delegation to Taiwan for a state visit from May 7th to 10th. This is his second visit to Taiwan since taking office in August 2023, and his first state visit. The delegation includes Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez, Minister of Industry and Commerce Marco Riquelme, and Presidential Chief of Staff Francisco Javier Giménez, among other government officials. President Lai will welcome him with a grand military salute and a state banquet on the 8th, and will present him with the Order of Brilliant Jade. (Editor: Su Chih-tsung) 1150507
