(Central News Agency reporter Su Ssu-yun, Taipei, 7th) The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) announced today that credit card spending in March reached NT$452.4 billion, and Q1 spending totaled NT$1.2522 trillion, with both monthly and quarterly figures setting new records for the same period. The FSC explained that the March spending was driven by some transactions from the February Lunar New Year and 228 consecutive holidays being deferred to March, coupled with active travel and overseas consumption.

The FSC today released information on credit card, debit card, and electronic payment institution operations for March. In the first quarter of this year, non-cash payment transactions amounted to approximately 2.213 billion transactions, with a total non-cash payment transaction value of NT$2.34 trillion.

Chang Chia-kuei, Deputy Director-General of the FSC's Banking Bureau, pointed out that credit card spending in March reached NT$452.4 billion, an annual increase of nearly 20%, and a monthly increase of NT$80.7 billion. The strong performance in March was mainly due to some transactions from the February Lunar New Year and 228 consecutive holidays being deferred to March, coupled with active travel and overseas consumption in March, boosting the month's spending.

Q1 spending reached NT$1.2522 trillion, also setting a new record for the same period, with an annual growth of 12.7%. Chang Chia-kuei noted that in addition to travel factors, continuous promotion by card-issuing institutions, an increase in domestic contracted merchants, and the public's growing habit of non-cash payment methods have all contributed to the increase in consumption. As of the end of March, the total number of circulating cards nationwide was approximately 59.44 million, while the number of active cards remained stable at 40.07 million.

In addition to credit cards, the public's reliance on electronic payments continues to deepen. As of the end of March this year, the total number of electronic payment users reached 39.97 million, an increase of 500,000 in a single month.

The amount of actual transactions collected by agents in March was approximately NT$27.25 billion, a monthly increase of NT$3.83 billion. Chang Chia-kuei pointed out that this was mainly due to three reasons: the effective promotional activities of LINE Pay Money, March being the peak season for tuition and miscellaneous fee payments, and e-commerce Women's Day promotions, all contributing to the growth in agency collection amounts.

Since its launch at the end of last year, LINE Pay Money's agency collection amount first took the top spot in February and continued to hold the championship in March, demonstrating its market penetration.

Regarding the number of electronic payment users, the top 5 are: JieKou Payment with 7.23 million users, iPASS Corporation with 7.22 million users, PXPay with 7.13 million users in 3rd place, EasyCard with 4.11 million users in 4th place, and LINE Pay Money with 3.73 million users in 5th place, maintaining the same ranking as in February.
