(Central News Agency reporter Yang Shu-min, Taipei, 7th) The Taipei City Department of Budget, Accounting and Statistics announced today that Taipei City's Consumer Price Index (CPI) for April was 112.07 (with the base period being 2021=100). The CPI increased by 0.79% compared to the previous month, mainly due to the launch of new spring/summer clothing and rising fuel costs caused by the Middle East conflict.
The Taipei City Department of Budget, Accounting and Statistics stated that Taipei City's CPI for April rose by 0.79% compared to the previous month. The main reason was that among the seven major categories, "clothing" rose by 8.50%, due to a 13.24% increase in apparel prices as new spring/summer collections hit the market.
Secondly, international oil prices rose due to the Middle East conflict, causing fuel costs to increase by 10.37%, leading to a 2.76% increase in the "transportation and communication" category, which also had an impact.
Furthermore, reduced special offers for some beauty and skincare products led to a 1.66% increase in beauty and hygiene expenses, causing the "miscellaneous" category to rise by 0.58%. Additionally, leafy vegetables were in a harvesting off-season, resulting in reduced supply and higher prices, causing vegetable prices to increase by 5.68%, which also led to a 0.47% increase in the "food" category.
In addition, education and entertainment rose by 0.26%, housing by 0.25%, and medical and healthcare by 0.12%.
The Department of Budget, Accounting and Statistics also reported that Taipei City's April CPI increased by 1.66% compared to the same month last year. The main reasons for the changes in the seven major categories were a 1.63% rise in rent, leading to a 1.94% increase in the "housing" category; a 13.53% increase in fuel costs, leading to a 3.31% increase in the "transportation and communication" category; and a 10.41% increase in personal accessories prices due to rising gold prices, leading to a 2.07% increase in the "miscellaneous" category. The core CPI (excluding fruits, vegetables, and energy) rose by 1.93%.
Furthermore, Taipei City's cumulative average CPI from January to April increased by 1.19% compared to the same period last year. Goods increased by 0.41%, and services increased by 1.66%. Excluding fruits and vegetables, the total index increased by 1.76%. The core CPI (excluding fruits, vegetables, and energy) rose by 1.75%. (Edited by Chang Ming-kun) 1150507
