(Central News Agency reporter Yang Yao-ju, Taipei, 7th) In response to China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterating the 'One China' principle and describing President Lai's visit to Eswatini as a 'smuggling-style visit,' Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs today reiterated that the two sides of the strait are not subordinate to each other. It strongly condemned China's despicable remarks and crude interference in the Taiwanese head of state's visit, calling on all countries to jointly uphold international order and resist authoritarian bullying.
China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a regular press conference on the 6th. When asked about President Lai Ching-te's visit to Eswatini on a special plane, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian not only reiterated the 'One China' principle but also described President Lai's visit as a 'smuggling-style visit,' and even claimed that Eswatini politicians were 'kept by Taiwan.' Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately issued a press release this morning to express its most severe condemnation and refutation, stating that China's remarks were 'full of malice, slanderous, and inappropriate statements that do not conform to international norms.'
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that as a sovereign and independent state, the Republic of China (Taiwan) conducting legitimate and regular mutual visits and exchanges with its allies is a diplomatic custom and a basic right of a sovereign state. The flight path planning for this presidential visit complied with international civil aviation regulations. China had previously used various means to undermine international order and infringe upon the sovereignty of other countries to obstruct the normal overflight of the Taiwanese President's special plane. Afterwards, it further spread defamatory remarks about the Taiwanese head of state's legitimate and lawful visit, which is a distortion of facts and an attempt to mislead the public.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that China's inappropriate remarks slandering Taiwanese allied dignitaries are not only groundless malicious defamation but also an extreme offense to Eswatini's sovereignty and the dignity of its head of state. Eswatini is a staunch ally of Taiwan in Africa, and cooperation between the two countries is based on equality, reciprocity, and mutual benefit. China's hegemonic mentality of belittling other countries' autonomous choices once again proves its long-standing bullying tactics to coerce other countries into accepting its political stance, as well as China's long-term disregard for the international order and universal values centered on democracy, freedom, and human rights.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that regarding China's absurd claims that 'subordinate countries' adhere to the 'One China principle' and refuse the Taiwanese President's special plane to fly over, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that the Republic of China (Taiwan) is a sovereign and independent state, not subordinate to the People's Republic of China, and the Chinese Communist regime has never ruled Taiwan. China continues to challenge the rules-based international order and the objective status quo, and its mentality of bullying the weak is clearly revealed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the international community to take this seriously and to confront China's continuous propaganda of its distorted historical views and rhetoric, and further actions, which have seriously affected international peace and stability.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that no form of pressure can erase the fact of Taiwan's existence, nor can it stop Taiwan's determination to go global; it calls on global democratic partners to recognize the urgent threat of the CCP's authoritarian expansion, to jointly defend international rule of law and flight safety, and to safeguard the common interests of the international community.
