(Central News Agency reporter Kuan Jui-ping, Miaoli County 7th) A townhouse in Zaoqiao Township, Miaoli County, caught fire late at night. The Miaoli County Fire Department received the report and rushed to the scene, deploying water lines to suppress the fire. However, there were still people trapped inside, so firefighters used ladders to successfully rescue six people and one cat. The fire was extinguished in the early hours of today, and fortunately, no one was injured.
The Miaoli County Fire Department stated that at around 11 PM on the 6th, they received a report of a fire in a three-story townhouse in the Lilan New Village Community in Zaoqiao Township. They immediately dispatched 9 vehicles and 23 personnel from the Zaoqiao, Zhunan, and Toufen brigades for rescue.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and found smoke and flames coming from the first-floor living room, with residents trapped on the second and third floors. They immediately deployed water lines to suppress the fire and prevent it from spreading further. At the same time, another team of firefighters used ladders from the ground to search and rescue, successfully rescuing four people on the second floor and two people and one cat on the third floor. The fire was extinguished within half an hour, and fortunately, the rescued individuals were not injured.
The Miaoli County Fire Department stated that after smoke evacuation and residual fire treatment, an investigation of the fire scene was conducted. It is initially suspected that an extension cord used in the living room caught fire, burning cabinets and electrical appliances in the house. The burned area is approximately 25 square meters, and the exact cause is awaiting appraisal and investigation.
The fire department reminds the public that household extension cords should be replaced in a timely manner. When using them, avoid placing them in damp or high-temperature environments, do not bundle them, and it is not advisable to use multiple electrical appliances simultaneously, which can lead to overloading. If an extension cord is found to be abnormally hot or has an unusual smell, the power should be immediately cut off for inspection to ensure safety. (Editor: Li Heng-shan) 1150507
