Lu Shiow-yen: Military Procurement of NT$800-900 Billion Should Pass First, Commercial Procurement Can Be Annual Budget

(Central News Agency reporter Zhao Liyen, Taichung, May 7) Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen said today that government-to-government military procurement, amounting to approximately NT$800 billion to NT$900 billion, can be placed in a special budget and passed with priority. Commercial procurement and commissioned manufacturing can be included in the annual budget to strengthen military procurement, maintain national security, and simultaneously consider the development of the drone industry.

Lu Shiow-yen attended the completion and opening ceremony of the Aofeng Mountain Park Guli Playground today and accepted media interviews afterward. Regarding the Blue-White coalition's proposed draft of the National Defense Special Act, which still tends to delete content and budgets for commercial procurement and commissioned manufacturing, the DPP legislative caucus stated that ignoring commercial procurement and commissioned manufacturing would affect Taichung's drone industry.

Lu Shiow-yen stated that government-to-government military procurement should be placed in a special budget for priority passage. For commercial procurement and commissioned manufacturing, she suggested they could be included in next year's annual budget. This would strengthen military procurement, develop national defense capabilities, and also ensure the development of the drone industry.

Regarding the prevention of rodent infestations, Lu Shiow-yen mentioned that citizens and the city government have long-term preventive measures. "Some places have cases, but Taichung City has no Hantavirus cases," but this should not lead to complacency just because Taichung's environment is relatively clean and has no Hantavirus cases; on the contrary, vigilance should be heightened and measures strengthened.
