(Central News Agency reporter Hsieh Chun-lin, Taipei, 7th) The Ministry of Justice announced today that the 4th National Report International Review Meeting on the Two Covenants will be held from May 11th to 15th. This review meeting has specially invited 12 world-class human rights experts to gather in Taiwan to engage in exchanges on human rights issues such as environmental rights and migrant worker equality.
The Ministry of Justice issued a press release stating that it is committed to viewing this grand international review event as an important platform for deepening dialogue between the government and civil society organizations and jointly improving human rights governance. This review meeting has specially invited 12 world-class human rights experts to gather in Taiwan, with international human rights experts Manfred Nowak and Heisoo Shin serving as chairpersons of the committees for the two covenants (International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights), respectively.
According to the press release, this group of experts will engage in substantive exchanges with Taiwanese government representatives and civil society organizations on diverse and emerging human rights issues, including digital transformation, environmental rights, and migrant worker and ethnic equality. The Ministry of Justice emphasized that even in the face of complex international situations, Taiwan consistently adheres to international human rights standards.
The press release mentioned that to ensure the professionalism and rigor of the review process, the Ministry of Justice convened multiple 'International Review Steering Committee Meetings for the 4th National Report on the Two Covenants' during the preparatory period, inviting domestic human rights experts to jointly plan the review process. At the same time, to expand civil participation, the Ministry of Justice strictly followed the 'Guidelines for Domestic and International Civil Society Organizations to Submit Parallel Reports and Parallel Responses for the 4th National Report on the Two Covenants,' ensuring that international experts can hear diverse perspectives from both the government and civil society.
The Ministry of Justice stated that to allow all citizens to witness Taiwan's progress in aligning its human rights with international standards, the review meeting will provide live online streaming and simultaneous interpretation throughout. The Ministry of Justice will continue to act as an administrative staff and a bridge for dialogue, improving the national human rights protection system so that Taiwan's democracy and justice can be synchronized with the world.
