(Central News Agency reporter Wu Hsin-yun, Taipei 7th) Taipei City Government promoted a childcare reduced working hours plan, and media reported that the central government originally intended to launch a similar policy but postponed it because it was not as good as Taipei City's. Minister of Labor Hung Shen-han said today that it has absolutely not been postponed or halted, and opinions are still being collected and reviewed in this direction.
Taipei City's 'Childcare Reduced Working Hours Plan,' which was the first in the nation, recently announced an upgrade to version 2.0, doubling the subsidy for each business unit to NT$200,000, and extending the trial period from the original end of October to the end of December.
China Times previously reported that the Ministry of Labor originally intended to launch a similar policy, but before its launch, it was postponed because Taipei City announced it first and the policy was not as good as Taipei City's, and instead accelerated the relaxation of foreign domestic helper policies.
In response, Hung Shen-han said in an interview at the Legislative Yuan today that administrative agencies have always viewed local governments' willingness to try more in creating friendly workplaces positively, but there has absolutely been no postponement or halt of the central plan due to local government demonstration projects.
Hung Shen-han said that the feasibility of policies related to flexible parental leave or reduced working hours has always depended on the completeness of supporting measures, and therefore, opinions from all sectors have been continuously collected and reviewed in this direction.
Hung Shen-han stated that the challenge of the declining birthrate in Taiwan is severe. In addition to planning to raise the age limit for children applicable to flexible parental leave, they are also expanding research into other more flexible directions, hoping to encourage fathers' participation and greater government support, aiming to reduce the burden. The ruling team will launch the plan as soon as possible after review. (Editor: Kuan Chung-wei) 1150507
