(Central News Agency reporter Chang Shu-ling, Beijing, 7th) Multiple universities in China have successively established Taiwan research institutions, with the latest being Hainan University. Scholars say that the university's Taiwan Research Center aims to align with the institutional advantages of the free trade port and provide decision-making references for cross-strait exchanges.
According to Hainan University News Network, on April 30, the unveiling ceremony of the Hainan University Taiwan Research Center and the Cross-Strait Integration Development Seminar were held at the School of Marxism. Fu Zhi-guan, chairman of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League Hainan Provincial Committee, Chen Xian-cai, director of Xiamen University Taiwan Research Center, and Li Hu, party secretary of Hainan University, attended the ceremony.
Chen Xian-cai stated that the Hainan University Taiwan Research Center serves the national strategy towards Taiwan, aims to be based on the characteristics of the free trade port, closely align with the institutional advantages of the Hainan Free Trade Port, and provide decision-making references for Hainan to build a frontier window for cross-strait exchanges; striving to build a distinctive Taiwan research highland "based in Hainan, facing both sides of the strait, and radiating to the South China Sea."
Li Hu stated that he requested the center to actively serve Hainan's development, focusing on Taiwan-related issues in the construction of the free trade port, and forming high-quality policy recommendations in key areas such as industrial complementarity between Hainan and Taiwan, youth exchanges, and cultural identity.
