(Central News Agency, Washington, 6th, comprehensive foreign report) The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) today raided the office and related businesses of Virginia Democratic heavyweight State Senator Louise Lucas as part of a corruption investigation; Democrats criticized the move as politically motivated.

AFP cited Fox News and The New York Times reports, stating that a legal cannabis dispensary co-managed by Louise Lucas, a senior member of the Virginia General Assembly, is the target of this investigation.

Regarding the raid, the FBI stated that agents executed a "court-authorized federal search warrant" in Portsmouth, Virginia, as part of an ongoing investigation, but declined to disclose further details.

Lucas posted on social media platform X tonight, stating that the FBI's actions are "far more than just targeting a state senator, but about power, and who has the right to exercise power on behalf of the people."

She added: "What we are seeing is entirely consistent with this administration's consistent pattern: once challenged, they try to intimidate and silence those who dare to stand against them."

Lucas recently played a significant role in promoting the redrawing of Virginia's congressional districts, a move that could help Democrats gain four seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

U.S. Democrats and Republicans are now engaged in a nationwide struggle over redistricting before the November midterm elections, a movement initiated last year by Texas Republicans at the urging of then-President Trump.

The New York Times pointed out that this corruption investigation began during the Biden administration, but Virginia Democratic U.S. Representative Bobby Scott questioned whether today's raid was politically motivated.

Scott stated in a declaration: "Before the full facts of the investigation become clear, one cannot ignore that the FBI's raid today comes at a time when the Trump administration has repeatedly been questioned for abusing the Department of Justice to target its perceived political opponents."

Scott mentioned that former FBI Director James Comey, a frequent public critic of Trump, was recently indicted for allegedly threatening Trump's life; additionally, authorities had also attempted to bring charges against another Trump political adversary, New York Attorney General Letitia James, but were unsuccessful.

Since Trump's return to the White House, he has taken multiple punitive measures against those he perceives as adversaries, including replacing government officials he deems disloyal, targeting law firms that previously participated in investigations against him, and cutting or threatening to cut federal funding for several universities.
