(Central News Agency reporter Huang Yu-ching, Pingtung County, 7th) The old track at Pingtung's Daguan Elementary School has been renovated, and after five months of construction, it was officially inaugurated today. The county government stated that since the launch of the track improvement plan in 2021, 85 schools have been completed, and it is expected to be extended to all county-affiliated schools by 2029.

Daguan Elementary School in Hengchun Township, Pingtung County, held its track inauguration ceremony today. Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi attended and expressed gratitude to DPP Legislator Hsu Fu-kuei for securing central government funding. The project received a subsidy of NT$4.9 million from the Ministry of Education, with the county government self-funding over NT$6.32 million, quickly completing the renovation of Daguan Elementary School's playground.

Chou Chun-mi pointed out that the county government is promoting the "County-affiliated School Track Improvement Plan." Among the 199 junior and senior high schools and elementary schools in Pingtung County, 85 have been completed, 25 are under construction, and the remaining schools are in planning and design. She hopes to complete the improvements for all schools as soon as possible, allowing children to have a healthy and happy childhood.

Wang Yi-hsuan, principal of Daguan Elementary School, stated that the school's playground had been exposed to wind and rain for over 10 years, "almost to the point of peeling off." She is very happy to have received the project funding, which not only provides a safe environment for children but also allows community residents to exercise. More importantly, the school's playground originally did not have a standard 100-meter track, which has now been put in place after the improvement, making the 41 students of Daguan Elementary School and 24 kindergarten children "excellent" in both academic ability and health in the future.

Pingtung County Sports Development Center stated that since the last renovation of the old PU track in 2013, the track surface has lost its adhesion, with multiple protrusions, and the drainage system has been damaged in many places, with some steel bars exposed. Serious water accumulation occurred every time it rained. Considering the urgency of the school's renovation, the planning and design fees were approved last year, and assistance was simultaneously sought for the Ministry of Education's approval and subsidy.

The Sports Development Center pointed out that the total project cost was NT$11,228,81. The playground renovation work included a fully enclosed PU track, drainage engineering, sprinkler engineering, and long jump pits. Construction started on October 13 last year and was successfully accepted on March 25 this year, with a construction period of approximately five months.

The Sports Development Center mentioned that the county government has been promoting the "County-affiliated School Track Improvement Plan" in recent years, inventorying school tracks within the county, and reviewing old, cracked, or non-compliant tracks one by one. Funds are invested in phases annually. From 2021 to April 11 this year, 85 school improvement projects have been completed, and all county-affiliated school track improvements are expected to be completed by 2029.
