Central News Agency (Reporter Hsieh Chun-lin, Taipei, 7th) The Taipei District Court, in its review of the Core Pacific City and other cases, sentenced former Taipei Deputy Mayor Peng Chen-sheng to 2 years imprisonment with 3 years probation, and former Taipei Urban Planning Committee Executive Secretary Shao Hsiu-pei to 1 year and 3 months imprisonment with 3 years probation, both for the crime of profiteering. As neither the Taipei District Prosecutors Office nor Peng and Shao filed an appeal within the deadline, their suspended sentences have been finalized.

The Taipei District Court's review of the Core Pacific City and Ko Wen-je's political donation case resulted in a verdict on March 26, sentencing former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je to 17 years imprisonment and 6 years deprivation of civil rights for violating the Anti-Corruption Act, specifically for accepting bribes in breach of duties. Regarding Ko Wen-je's alleged acceptance of NT$15 million in bribes from Core Pacific Group Chairman Shen Ching-ching, no separate acquittal was issued. The remaining 8 defendants were sentenced to terms ranging from 1 year to 15 years and 4 months imprisonment, with two acquitted.

In response, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office believed that the original judgment did not include Shen Ching-ching's NT$15 million bribe to Ko Wen-je as a factual basis for sentencing consideration, raising concerns of overly lenient sentencing. Therefore, on April 30, an appeal was filed against Ko Wen-je and 9 others. However, no appeal was filed regarding the suspended sentences of Peng Chen-sheng and Shao Hsiu-pei.

According to the Code of Criminal Procedure, "the appeal period is 20 days, calculated from the date of service of the judgment. However, an appeal filed after the pronouncement of the judgment but before service is also valid." As the Taipei District Court did not receive appeal documents from Peng Chen-sheng and Shao Hsiu-pei within the appeal period, and the Taipei District Prosecutors Office also did not file an appeal against them, Peng Chen-sheng and Shao Hsiu-pei's suspended sentences have been finalized.
