(Central News Agency reporter Cheng Wei-chen, Changhua, 7th) A woman surnamed Chou from Fangyuan Township, Changhua County, who allegedly strangled and used a knife to injure her mother after an argument last year, was arrested by police in Taichung City after the incident. The Changhua District Court today sentenced her to 12 years and 6 months imprisonment for parricide, with 3 years and 6 months of guardianship, which can be appealed.
According to the indictment from the Changhua District Prosecutor's Office, the woman surnamed Chou and her mother surnamed Liu had a family member relationship under the Domestic Violence Prevention Act, and they lived together in their residence in Fangyuan Township, Changhua County. On the afternoon of June 21, 2025, during an argument between Ms. Chou and her mother, Ms. Chou swept her mother's legs with her foot near the stairs on the second floor, causing her mother to fall at the corner of the stairs. She then grabbed her mother's head and repeatedly knocked it against the floor three times, and strangled her mother's neck for three minutes, causing her to suffocate to death.
Seeing her mother motionless on the ground, the woman surnamed Chou then used a fruit knife to slash her mother's right hand, neck, and other areas, and then drove away to Taichung City.
Ms. Chou's elder sister went to visit her mother around 5 PM that same afternoon and was shocked to find her mother lying on the ground, immediately calling the police. Upon arrival, officers found her mother had no vital signs and seized the fruit knife used by Ms. Chou at the scene. Ms. Chou was arrested in Taichung City around 11 PM that same night.
The case was concluded by the Changhua District Prosecutor's Office, which indicted Ms. Chou for allegedly committing the crime of killing a lineal ascendant and transferred it to the Changhua District Court's national judge court for trial.
The District Court stated that Ms. Chou's methods were brutal and resulted in the victim's death, and her statements were inconsistent. Considering that Ms. Chou suffers from schizophrenia, and her family chose not to press charges after losing both their mother and sister, she was sentenced to 12 years and 6 months imprisonment, with 3 years and 6 months of guardianship to be imposed after the completion of her sentence or pardon. The entire case can be appealed. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150507
