The Central Bank has commissioned Taiwan Bank to conduct an online bidding auction for 153 sets, totaling 6,281 pieces, of NT$100, NT$500, and NT$1,000 special serial number circulating banknotes from 10 AM on May 21st to 10 AM on May 26th.
New Taiwan Dollar banknotes consist of two English letters at the beginning and end, and six numbers in the middle. Banknotes with special numbers such as 666666, 888888, and 168168 are often the main attractions of the Central Bank's auctions.
Deng Yen-ta, Director-General of the Issuing Department of the Central Bank, explained that since the auction of special banknotes began in October 2012, up to the 27th auction, the total auction revenue reached NT$129,159,069. After deducting face value and business tax, the net income was NT$87,484,969.
Deng Yen-ta pointed out that market response has been enthusiastic in recent periods, with the 24th and 26th auctions selling out completely, and the 27th auction selling nearly 80% (about 79.85%). Therefore, the quantity for this auction has only slightly increased. He believes that most bidders are collectors, and some collectors' demand may have been temporarily satisfied, so occasional market demand digestion is normal.
Deng Yen-ta added that the total revenue from the 27th auction was NT$6,423,669, with a net income of NT$3,467,970. Unsold banknotes will be put up for auction in subsequent periods.
The Central Bank's 28th public auction of special serial number banknotes is about to take place. Deng Yen-ta stated that Taiwan Bank will publish detailed operating regulations for the online auction business on its website's 'Special Serial Number Banknote Auction Zone' from May 11th to May 26th, where the public can check online.
In addition, to facilitate public bidding and inquiries, Taiwan Bank will publish online auction announcement information in newspapers from May 11th to May 13th. (Editor: Pan Yi-ching) 1150507
