(Central News Agency reporter Chiu Tsu-hsun, Taipei 7th) Yang Chong-de (Yukan Tayax), a preserver of the indigenous oral tradition "Lmuhuw na Tayal 'Bngciq' (Atayal Oral Tradition - Dabao Group)," passed away on April 22nd at the age of 72. The Ministry of Culture will award him a commendation.

The Ministry of Culture today issued a press release stating that Minister of Culture Li Yuan expressed deep condolences upon hearing the news. Yang Chong-de dedicated himself for many years to the preservation and transmission of oral traditions, possessing excellent indigenous language abilities and rich traditional knowledge. He spared no effort in transmitting Atayal culture, history, and traditional knowledge, which is deeply admirable.

The press release pointed out that Yang Chong-de was born in 1954 and had long been committed to the transmission of Atayal traditional knowledge. He personally visited schools, government agencies, churches, and various associations, narrating the "Dabao Incident" during the Japanese colonial period through oral storytelling, thereby transmitting the spirit of the Atayal Dabao Group and promoting the complete preservation of cultural context. This year, he was announced by the Taoyuan City Government as a recognized preserver of the oral tradition "Lmuhuw na Tayal 'Bngciq' (Atayal Oral Tradition - Dabao Group)."

The Ministry of Culture stated that "Lmuhuw" is the crystallization of Atayal linguistic wisdom. It uses symbolic and metaphorical techniques to convey messages through speech or song in various occasions such as meetings, negotiations, marriage proposals, weddings, ancestral spirit rituals, and social gatherings, thereby transmitting ethnic history, customs, and ecological environment.

The Ministry of Culture will continue to assist the Taoyuan City Government in preserving and transmitting this "oral tradition," allowing the unique indigenous intangible cultural heritage to continue to be sung and promoted. (Editor: Wu Su-jou) 1150507
