(Central News Agency reporter Cao Ya-yan, New Taipei, 8th) The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office is investigating Airlee Clinic for alleged hidden camera peeping. On the 6th, President Chang Ju-shan, Assistant Zhang, and vendor Xie were taken in for questioning. After interrogation, they were requested for detention and restricted from communication on suspicion of offenses including obstruction of sexual privacy. Last night, the New Taipei District Court held a detention hearing and ruled late at night that all three would be detained and restricted from communication.
On the 6th, New Taipei police and prosecutors searched four branches of Airlee Clinic, including Banqiao and Xinzhuang, and brought in Airlee Group President Chang Ju-shan and others. After further questioning, Chang Ju-shan, Assistant Zhang, and vendor Xie were deemed to be involved in offenses such as obstruction of sexual privacy, obstruction of secrecy, and violations of the Child and Youth Sexual Exploitation Prevention Act, and a request for detention and restricted communication was filed.
The New Taipei District Court held a detention hearing on the evening of the 7th. The judge determined that Chang Ju-shan had a risk of absconding, and that all three, including Assistant Zhang and vendor Xie, had a risk of colluding with co-conspirators and witnesses, destroying, forging, or altering evidence, and thus ruled that all three should be detained and restricted from communication.
The case originated when a female netizen reported on the 1st that she went to Airlee Clinic's Banqiao branch for a body sculpting treatment. While changing clothes in the treatment room, she discovered an unknown device in the ceiling corner that she suspected contained a camera. Clinic staff claimed it was a smoke detector. After the woman reported it to the police, the Haishan Precinct went to the clinic on the 3rd for a search, dismantled the device, and confirmed it contained a camera, but no main unit was found.
The police tracked vendor Xie, who allegedly went to the Banqiao branch on the evening of the 1st to dismantle equipment. The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office Chief Prosecutor Chou Hsin-pei was immediately requested to direct the investigation. On the 3rd, vendor Xie was taken into custody in Taichung, and it was discovered that vendor Xie was allegedly instructed to drive south to dismantle the surveillance camera main units from 10 branches in central and northern Taiwan, not ruling out the possibility of destroying evidence. Prosecutors also found multiple victims during the inspection of the seized disguised surveillance camera main units and lenses, with at least 10 people having completed reporting the incident.
