(Central News Agency reporter Su Muchun, Taichung, 7th) The investigation into the suspected pinhole cameras hidden in smoke detectors at Airi Clinic's New Taipei Banqiao branch has expanded to branches nationwide. The Taichung District Prosecutors Office stated today that cases involving suspected violations of the Personal Data Protection Act at Airi Clinic's Taichung Wenxin branch and Taichung Chongde branch have been filed and will be transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for joint investigation.
The Taiwan Taichung District Prosecutors Office stated that this morning, it received a letter from the Taichung City Government Health Bureau requesting an investigation into suspected violations of the Personal Data Protection Act at Airi Clinic's Taichung Wenxin branch and Taichung Chongde branch within its jurisdiction. The case has been filed, and after contacting the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office, the case will be transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for joint handling.
The case originated from a female netizen who reported that on the 1st, she went to Airi Clinic's Banqiao branch for body sculpting. While changing clothes in the treatment room, she found an unknown device in the corner of the ceiling suspected of containing a camera. Clinic staff claimed it was a smoke detector. After the woman reported to the police, officers arrived and dismantled the device, confirming that it contained a camera.
Under the command of the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office, the Haishan Precinct and Women and Children's Protection Team launched a search and tracked down a vendor surnamed Xie, who was suspected of being instructed to dismantle and destroy evidence from the surveillance hosts of 10 branches in central and northern Taiwan. Prosecutors seized disguised surveillance host machines and cameras from branches including Banqiao, Xinzhuang, Yonghe, Linkou, Zhongxiao, Zhanqian, Nanjing, Taoyuan, Taichung Wenxin, and Taichung Chongde. Investigations revealed that multiple people were suspected of being victims, and currently, seven victims have completed reporting to the police.
The New Taipei police and prosecutors yesterday brought in eight people, including Airi Clinic President Chang Ru-shan. After overnight questioning, Chang Ru-shan, a special assistant surnamed Zhang, and the vendor surnamed Xie were detained early this morning on charges of unauthorized filming of sexual images and other offenses.
