Central News Agency (CNA) Correspondent Wang Hung-ko and Huang Hsu-sheng, New Taipei City, 6th) A water pipe on Xinbei Avenue at the intersection with Wugong Road in Xinzhuang District, New Taipei City, which was cut during construction in February causing traffic inconvenience, was unexpectedly severed again this morning. The water company is currently undertaking emergency repairs. Mayor Hou Yu-ih stated that he will demand contractors to be more cautious during construction.

The pedestrian overpass construction is underway at the intersection of Xinbei Avenue and Wugong Road in Xinzhuang District, New Taipei City. In February, an accident occurred where a water pipe was accidentally severed during construction. After emergency repairs by the water company, the pipe was replaced. Unexpectedly, it was cut again around 7 AM this morning. As it was rush hour, the police quickly arrived to manage traffic.

The police stated that due to the main water pipe being severed, a large amount of water leaked, causing severe road flooding and affecting vehicle traffic. Currently, traffic control measures include diverting traffic on Xinbei Avenue towards Taishan to turn left or right at Huacheng Road; and controlling vehicles entering Wugong Road from Xinbei Avenue at Siyuan Road intersection.

Hou Yu-ih, presiding over a city council meeting this morning, learned of the water pipe being severed again on Xinbei Avenue. He stated during a post-meeting media interview that relevant units were immediately on site to handle the situation, and currently, neither the contractors nor household water supply are affected.

Hou Yu-ih stated that because similar incidents have occurred before, construction contractors must verify survey maps more carefully in the future, and the city government will implement stricter management.

Public Works Department Director-General Feng Chao-lin pointed out that after the accidental pipe severance on February 8 this year, the construction unit had already strengthened measures such as ground-penetrating radar surveys, trial drilling of pre-bored piles, and re-mapping of pipeline data. The city government team deeply apologizes for the inconvenience caused to citizens by the accidental severance today.

Maintenance Engineering Office Director-General Cheng Li-hui stated that Taiwan Water Corporation has been notified to enter the site for emergency repairs. Taiwan Water Corporation is currently implementing reduced pressure water supply measures, which will not affect water supply to Wugu and Xinzhuang areas, and is working hard to restore normal water supply in the shortest possible time.
