This also pre-qualified him for his third consecutive Asian Games.

According to the selection rules of the Chinese Taipei Archery Association, the four male and female recurve archers who emerged from the Nagoya Asian Games selection trials must participate in the first two World Cups of 2026 hosted by World Archery: Puebla, Mexico in April, and this Shanghai, China event. Their scores will be converted into points, and the top 3 ranked archers will represent Taiwan at the Nagoya Asian Games.

"Tang Bao" Tang Chih-chun, currently ranked first among men's recurve archers, performed exceptionally well in today's Archery World Cup Shanghai qualifier, achieving an average arrow value of 9.58 points and an impressive high score of 690 points, even surpassing renowned archers such as France's Baptiste Addis, South Korea's Kim Woo-jin, and Turkey's Mete Gazoz, thus earning the title of top seed for the elimination rounds.

It is worth noting that Tang Chih-chun won a silver medal in the individual event at the April World Cup in Puebla. With Tang Chih-chun successfully breaking 690 points in this World Cup qualifier, earning another 30 points, he has prematurely secured his Asian Games qualification, marking his third consecutive appearance on the Asian Games stage.

Coach Liu Chan-ming stated in an interview with Central News Agency that Tang Chih-chun's recent condition has been well-adjusted, especially after gaining significant confidence from his silver medal at the previous World Cup. Now, Tang Chih-chun has defeated a group of famous archers in the qualifier. He believes this is a great affirmation for his protégé, but the upcoming elimination rounds will be challenging. He hopes Tang Chih-chun can maintain his good touch and further break through his limits.
