Taiwan Stock Market Rebounds Strongly in April, Foreign Capital Net Inflow Hits Record US$26.4 Billion

The Taiwan stock market surged by 7203.64 points in April alone, setting a new record for the largest monthly gain in history. Statistics from the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) show that the net inflow of foreign and mainland Chinese capital in April reached US$26.42 billion. This is not only the largest for the same period but also the largest monthly amount ever recorded. The cumulative net inflow up to the end of April this year reached US$44.272 billion, also setting a new record for the same period in history.

The FSC today released information on foreign and mainland Chinese investment in domestic securities. In April this year, foreign and mainland Chinese capital net bought NT$177.456 billion in listed and OTC stocks, ranking as the 7th largest single-month net purchase since 2022, and the largest for the same period. As of the end of April this year, the cumulative net sale of foreign and mainland Chinese capital reached NT$497.732 billion, marking the 3rd largest cumulative net sale for the same period since 2022.

FSC data shows that foreign and mainland Chinese capital saw net inflows in January and February this year. However, with the outbreak of the US-Iran conflict at the end of February, volatility in international stock markets and the Taiwan stock market intensified, dragging down the performance of the Taiwan stock market in March, and foreign and mainland Chinese capital also showed a small net outflow in March.
