(Central News Agency reporter Lu Tai-cheng, Taitung County 6th) Swimming pool facilities at three schools in Taitung, including Taitung Girls' Senior High School, are old and have safety concerns. Legislator Chen Ying assisted in securing NT$28.75 million from the Ministry of Education to promote renovation and equipment upgrades. Chen Ying stated that the swimming pool equipment at the three schools must be replaced immediately to ensure teaching quality and the safety of teachers and students.

The press release issued today by the office of Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Chen Ying stated that the swimming pool facilities at Taitung Girls' Senior High School, Taitung Sports High School, and Taitung Junior College have been in use for many years and have successively experienced problems such as aging equipment and safety concerns. Starting late last year, Chen Ying, along with fellow party legislator Chuang Jui-hsiung and county councilor Huang Chih-wei, who is also the chairman of the Taitung Girls' Senior High School Parents' Association, successively invited relevant units from the Ministry of Education to visit the schools for inspection.

Chen Ying, Chuang Jui-hsiung, and Taitung County Councilor Huang Chih-wei, who also serves as the chairman of the Taitung Girls' Senior High School Parents' Association, along with Councilor Chien Wei-kuo's assistant, invited the Ministry of Education and relevant units for an inspection on December 17 last year.

The press release stated that they recently received notification that the Ministry of Education has approved a total subsidy of NT$28.75 million for the renovation of the three schools, including NT$11.90 million for Taitung Sports High School's 2026 Swimming Teaching Facility Energy Efficiency Enhancement and Water Quality Optimization Improvement Project (Phase II); NT$7.65 million for Taitung Girls' Senior High School's 2026 Swimming Pool Renovation and Maintenance Project; and NT$9.20 million for Taitung Junior College's 2026 Swimming Pool Renovation and Maintenance Project.

The renovation and upgrade items include updating heat pumps and heat storage systems, improving filtration and water pre-treatment equipment, repairing pool body waterproofing and structure, updating drainage and pipelines, improving ventilation and lighting equipment, refurbishing spectator stands and changing/showering areas, optimizing poolside and accessible facilities, and updating system monitoring and equipment, comprehensively improving the quality of the swimming teaching environment and usage safety.

Chen Ying stated that swimming is one of Taitung's important sports development projects and a crucial basic facility for campus sports courses and water safety education. The simultaneous improvement of the three schools will not only help enhance students' learning quality but also strengthen water safety education and further promote grassroots swimming development, allowing students to learn and grow in a safer and more complete environment.
