Central News Agency (CNA) Correspondent Lu Tai-cheng, Taitung County, 6th) In Taitung City this morning, a small passenger car ran a red light, refused police interception, and collided with a police car before fleeing. The police launched a pursuit, successfully apprehending the driver, Mr. Liao, and sending him to the Taitung District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges including obstruction of official duties and injury.

Around 6 AM this morning, a police car was seen chasing a white passenger car in downtown Taitung City, alarming early morning exercisers. The police, with superior force, successfully intercepted the passenger car and arrested the driver, bringing him back to the police station.

Zheng Sheng-yang, station chief of the Zhongxing Police Station, Taitung Precinct, Taitung County Police Bureau, told CNA reporters this morning that officers from Zhongxing Police Station were on patrol around 6 AM when they spotted a small passenger car running a red light at the intersection of Kaifeng Street and Chang'an Road in Taitung City. They approached to stop and question the driver, but the driver refused to cooperate, reversed, accelerated, collided with the police car, and fled.

The police immediately notified other police units and dispatched additional forces for interception and pursuit, successfully stopping the passenger car on Luoyang Street in Taitung City.

Zheng Sheng-yang stated that during the arrest, the driver, Mr. Liao, resisted violently and attacked the officers on duty, causing multiple abrasions, contusions, and lacerations to the officers. The police arrested him on the spot as a现行犯 (person committing an offense). Mr. Liao's alcohol test result was not over the limit. The entire case will be transferred to the Taitung District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of obstruction of official duties, damage, injury, and public endangerment. Investigation into possible drug-impaired driving will continue.

Taitung Precinct urges the public to cooperate with police officers performing their duties in accordance with the law and not to obstruct official duties with violence or other means, to avoid legal penalties. (Edited by Chang Ya-ching) 1150506
