(Central News Agency reporter Chen Chih-chung, Taipei, 6th) The Executive Yuan approved an increase in the special education allowance for elementary and junior high schools to NT$2,800 per month in June 2025, which took effect in February this year. The National Federation of Teachers' Unions today called for it to be retroactively applied to September 2025, following the precedent of the homeroom teacher allowance.

The National Federation of Teachers' Unions issued a press release today pointing out that the special education allowance had been frozen for 33 years. After advocacy from the private sector, the Executive Yuan finally officially approved the increase in June 2025, but its effective date was delayed until February this year.

In contrast, the National Federation of Teachers' Unions noted that the "increase in homeroom teacher allowance, hourly wages, and additional administrative work bonuses for senior high and below schools," announced on December 31, 2025, not only took effect in January this year but also was retroactively applied to September 2025. The special education allowance increase was approved earlier but took effect later and was not retroactively applied.

The National Federation of Teachers' Unions called for the special education allowance increase, which was originally a good intention, not to create a negative impression of unequal treatment due to insufficient internal coordination and horizontal communication within the government.

The National Federation of Teachers' Unions stated that it hopes the Executive Yuan will promptly approve the retroactive application of the special education allowance to September 2025, to implement respect for professionalism and provide reasonable treatment with a rational and pragmatic attitude, thereby retaining talent for special education and ensuring students' right to education.
