(Central News Agency reporter Hung Hsueh-kuang, Kaohsiung, 6th) Chung Tien reporter Lin Chen-yu was involved in receiving virtual currency from overseas forces, producing anti-recall videos, bribing and recruiting six active and retired military personnel to film pro-communist videos, and spying on military secrets. The Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office indicted Lin Chen-yu and six others on charges including violating the Anti-Infiltration Act, corruption, and national security laws, seeking heavy sentences.
The Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office held a press conference this afternoon, stating that Lin Chen-yu, as a news reporter and anchor for a television company, also operated the YouTube channel program "Ma De You Shi Ma?". During the 11th Legislative Yuan recall case, he collaborated with an unidentified overseas hostile force, a person surnamed Huang, and produced anti-recall videos as instructed. Afterwards, he sent back screenshots of traffic to confirm results, thereby receiving 4325 units of virtual currency Tether (USDT) as funding.
The prosecution found that since 2023, Lin Chen-yu provided his bank account as a channel for the unidentified person surnamed Huang to bribe military personnel. He also received overseas remuneration through virtual currency exchange accounts such as Binance and OKX, thereby laundering criminal proceeds.
After Lin Chen-yu met members of the overseas group online, he used money to entice military personnel to film pro-communist videos. He also transferred his funds to bribe six active and retired military personnel, including those surnamed Hung, Chung, Chen, Yang, Lai, and Ko, who served in the Army and Navy. These six military personnel agreed to photograph confidential military documents and electromagnetic records with their mobile phones and transmit them to the overseas group via communication software. Lin Chen-yu then received equivalent Tether as compensation.
The prosecution considered that Lin Chen-yu, as a well-known media worker, should have fulfilled functions such as supervising the government and protecting the public's right to know. However, for personal gain, he long-term collaborated with overseas hostile forces, even submitting neutral drafts for overseas review before broadcasting, seriously affecting the direction of domestic public opinion and endangering national security. After the investigation, the case was indicted on charges of violating the Anti-Infiltration Act, Money Laundering Control Act, and the Anti-Corruption Act for joint bribery for dereliction of duty, with specific sentences of 5 years, 5 years, and 7 years imprisonment requested respectively.
In addition, the six military personnel, including those surnamed Hung, were indicted on charges of accepting bribes for dereliction of duty under the Anti-Corruption Act, violating the National Security Act for transmitting confidential official electromagnetic records to mainland China, and leaking secrets under the Criminal Code. The Qiaotou District Court was requested to impose heavy sentences.
The Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office added that this case was prosecuted under the National Judges Act, but due to its involvement in official national security secrets, it is not suitable for public trial. After indictment, the public prosecutor will apply to the court to transfer the case, and the National Judges Act trial procedure will not be followed. After Lin Chen-yu's indictment, he is expected to be transferred to the Qiaotou District Court tomorrow to decide whether to continue his detention. (Editor: Hsieh Ya-chu) 1150506
